On 08.07.2025 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within Java.
SAP Note 3621771 addresses "[CVE-2025-42963] Insecure Deserialization in SAP NetWeaver Application Server for Java (Log Viewer )" to prevent remote code execution vulnerability with a hot news risk for exploitation.
A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process, the team suggests.

SAP NetWeaver Application Server for Java Log Viewer contains an unsafe Java deserialization vulnerability that can be exploited by an authenticated attacker with administrative privileges, potentially leading to full control over the underlying operating system.Solution
The vulnerable Log Viewer RM module has been removed to mitigate the Java deserialization vulnerability. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "To reduce risk, you can temporarily disable the vulnerable LogViewer component by adding a startup filter. Use the following settings:You can add this filter through either the Config Tool or the NWA Java System Properties.1. Launch the Config Tool:Navigate to: <SAP_install_dir>/<system_name>/<instance_name>/j2ee/configtool and double-click the configtool script file.2. Go to View → Expert Mode.3. Select the relevant configuration template or instance where you want to apply the filter.4. Open the Filters section.5. In the Custom Rules pane:- Set Action to disable- Choose Component Type: all components- Set Vendor Mask: sap.com- Set Component Name Mask: tc~lm~itsam~ui~lv~*6. Click Add, then select the new entry and choose Set.7. Apply the changes and restart the system.Once the LogViewer application is disabled, logs can still be accessed via:- SAP Management Console (SAP MMC)- Directly from the file system".
