Advisory

A note with CVSS 9.1 for component EP-PIN-FPN was released by SAP on 08.07.2025. The correction/advisory 3620498 was described with "[CVE-2025-42980] Insecure Deserialization in SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal Federated Portal Network" and affects the system type Java.

A workaround exists, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.

The vulnerability addressed is remote code execution vulnerability within Java.

Risk specification

SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal Federated Portal Network allows an authenticated attacker with elevated privileges to upload untrusted or malicious content, leading to remote code execution via insecure deserialization.

Solution

The vulnerability has been mitigated by enhancing the deserialization logic to validate incoming input before processing.  Although an alternative solution exists, it is advisable to apply the correction! This is the workaround, which was suggested by the SAP security experts: "There is no applicable method to isolate or disable the vulnerable endpoint independently of the patch. However, this endpoint is already restricted and can only be accessed by highly privileged administrator users. Ensure that:- All privileged accounts are actively monitored and managed- Administrator credentials are securely stored and not exposed or leaked".

SAP Netweaver Application Server Java is part of the SAP NetWeaver Application Platform. It provides the complete infrastructure for deploying and running Java applications.
