Advisory

A note with CVSS 5.9 for component CA-UI5-CTR-ROD was released by SAP on 09.12.2025. The correction/advisory 3676970 was described with "[CVE-2025-42873] Denial of Service (DoS) in SAPUI5 framework (Markdown-it component)" and affects the system type SAP UI5Open UI5.

A workaround does not exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.

The vulnerability addressed is denial of service (dos) within SAP UI5Open UI5.

Denial of Service (DoS) attacks that take a system offline may lead to significant cost for the company, studies quantify the costs in average between 4 and 5 millions dollars. Business continuity requires SAP systems staying online. The CVSS scores or vulnerability descriptions are not enough to represent how a simple bug can lead to a significant loss for companies.

Risk specification

A vulnerability in the Markdown-it component of the SAP UI5 framework allows an unauthenticated attacker to upload specially malformed inputs, which can result in high CPU usage and system unresponsiveness due to a blocked processing thread.

Solution

The vulnerability is addressed by upgrading the markdown-it library to the latest version, which resolves the infinite loop issue and ensures proper handling of malformed input.
