Advisory
On 11.08.2026 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within ABAP.
SAP Note 3772411 addresses "3772411 - [CVE-2026-58243] Privilege Escalation vulnerability in SAP ABAP Developer Tools" to prevent escalation of privileges with a high risk for exploitation.
A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process, the team suggests.
Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. Since SAP uses an explicit authorization model, an authority checks must be coded in order to be executed. If an explicit check is not coded, all users have access. This type of vulnerability not only exists in SAP standard it also exists in customer coding. Check your custom developments for vulnerabilities that pose a risk to your systems. SecurityBridge helps detect code vulnerabilities before they are implemented in production.
Risk specification
SAP ABAP Development Tools does not perform necessary authorization checks for certain functionality, allowing an attacker with low privileges to execute unauthorized database operations against SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to read sensitive data, modify application data, and disrupt access for legitimate users, resulting in high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Change Log: v12 (Current Version) - UPDATE 8th September 2026:This note has been re-released with updated 'Solution' section. v11 (Initial Version released to customers)
Solution
The affected functionality of the SQL Console in SAP ABAP Developer Tools now properly restricts the use of host expressions. Please refer to SAP Note 3790544 "FAQ Note for SAP Security Note 3772411" with further questions you might have. Implement the Correction Instructions or Support Packages and Patches referenced in this SAP security Note. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "Please assess the workaround applicability for your SAP landscape prior to implementation. Note that this workaround is a temporary fix and is not a permanent solution. SAP strongly recommends you apply the corrections outlined in the security note, which can be done in lieu of the workaround or after the workaround is implemented. As a temporary mitigation until the security note is implemented, restrict authorizations that enable table access through the SQL Console: Ensure that the authorization object S_TABU_NAM (Table Access by Generic Standard Tools) is not assigned to any user. Ensure that the authorization object S_TABU_DIS (Table Maintenance via Standard Tools) is not assigned to any user.".
